We’re excited to announce our partnership with Safe Space Alliance! This NZ organisation has now gone global and aims to help people identify, navigate, and create safe spaces for the LGBTTQIA+ community worldwide. Details below on how you can make your workplace, organisation, event or website identifiable as a Safe Space.

SSA aims to help people identify, navigate, and create safe spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community. A safe space is a space where the LGBTQIA+ community can freely express themselves without fear. It is a space that does not tolerate violence, bullying, or hate speech towards the LGBTQIA+ community.

Recent studies showed that LGBTQIA+ people were 75% more likely to report being socially excluded. Rainbow participants were more likely to report moderate or severe anxiety, moderate or severe depression, high or very high levels of psychological distress. The LGBTQIA+ Community have almost all the same rights as everyone else but having rights doesn’t necessarily mean or guarantee acceptance. There will be individuals and groups out there who, regardless of what the law says, do not accept the LGBTQI+ community for various reasons.

For $120 a year, you can register as a Safe Space. This registration will include;
– Registration and listing with Safe Space Alliance (listing on www.safespacealliance.com & www.pridewhanganui.co.nz)
– Safe Space identification sticker for premise (or logo for online space)
– Staff training
– Unlimited resources
– Ongoing support
– Quarterly updates

Use of fee: we will be donating a portion of funds back to the Safe Space Alliance so they can continue to do their amazing work globally and the rest will go towards resources for this initiative and further community projects that Pride Whanganui undertakes.
